Strip Heaters

ISOTHERM™ strip heaters are used principally for convection-type air heating and clamp-on installations. When selecting strip heaters for either, two important factors must be considered: The proper sheath material for resisting any rusting and oxidizing inherent in the process or environment and for withstanding the sheath temperature required. Standard sheath materials are rust resisting iron, chrome steel and Incoloy (NS Series only). Stainless steel and Monel sheaths are available at an additional charge. Maximum work and sheath temperatures are below. The watt density of the element, or watts per square inch of heated area. This should be low for heating asphalt, molasses and other thick substances with low heat transferability; it can be higher for heating air, metals and other heat conducting materials.

Ceramic Strip Heaters provides the ability to withstand higher temperatures. Isotherm’s Strip heaters, often considered component heaters, are a simple way of using surface area to transfer heat effectively. A fairly inexpensive way of heating surfaces or small areas, strip heaters are an excellent solution to meet any budget. If strip heaters are used as a radiant heater, they can have fins to maximize surface area and heat transfer to the air. Our Ceramic Strip Heaters are dependable and reliable flat heating elements – designed to provide efficient heat to flat surfaces from common to industrial applications. The seamless sheath design of Ceramic Strip Heaters makes them ‘dimensionally’ stable in milled slots. Ceramic Strip Heaters are constructed with ceramic insulation that quickly conducts heat from the resistance wire to the sheath resulting in low internal temperatures and long heater life in the most demanding applications. Precise placement of the resistance wire provides uniform sheath temperature across the width and along the entire heated length. This is an extremely rugged construction capable of high temperatures and high watt densities. The inner construction consists of wound nichrome resistance coil. The inner flexible wire is strung through ceramic insulator pieces. The coils are attached to the screw terminals, or high temperature lead wires, for a positive connection. MgO (magnesium oxide) is used to fill and pack open areas surrounding the coils. The MgO material helps increase the elements of thermal conductivity and dielectric strength.
